Rusty Math Skills

Years ago I went through a divorce. After five years and three children my wife and I had a difference of opinion about whether she should remain faithful to our marriage. I was of the opinion that infidelity is not okay and she was of the opinion that she was tired of being a wife and mother and wanted to live a lifestyle not conducive to raising children. She changed her mind about custody though when it came to money. She decided that child support money was something she would rather receive instead of pay. Suddenly, my income was split between two households instead of one. When you hear those that receive child support money complain that it is not enough or those that pay child support complain it is too much - both are correct. A single income is not enough when divided between two households. Taxes are messed up when it comes to divorce. My ex-wife gets child support money tax free and also gets to claim the children as deductions (double dipping). I get taxed at a higher single rate as if I had no children. I no longer had the financial flexibility to make the sacrifices needed to finish my degree. I tried several times but it has not been realistic to expect that I could finish college while paying child support money. My children are getting old enough now that child support will no longer interfere so I will try again this Fall. My educational goals haven't changed as a result of divorce, they just got postponed by about 15 years. I want to become a high school math teacher. My calculus is pretty rusty but I'm hoping to pick it up again with extra study.
